Authorities have canceled a tsunami warning for the west coast of Northern California after a major earthquake shook the ocean floor. There have been no reports of damage or injuries from the quake which struck late Tuesday, 147 kilometers southwest of the town of Crescent City.
In 1964, 11 people lost their lives in Crescent City when a tsunami struck the California coast following an earthquake in Alaska. Seismologists are closely watching earthquake activity in Alaska's Aleutian Islands. The area has been shaken by seven quakes of magnitude 5.0 or greater since Tuesday.
