On Febuary 2, 2003 a new swarm of quakes have begun to shake the east bay again. This earthquake sequence is located within the Calaveras fault zone and immediately to the south of the November 2002 swarm.
Starting from around 8:19am (PDT) up to the time I posted this article (11:39am), we have experienced 23 earthquakes. 5 of the quakes have registered 3.0 or greater, with the strongest being 4.2 (which shook me off of the couch and onto the computer).
This series of quakes are a little stronger than the previous swarm. Preliminary locations reveal a trend parallel to the Calaveras fault.
So far, there have been no reports of damage. Immediately following the quake, I walked around my neighborhood to check if everything was ok. I did hear a few police sirens occasionally, here in Concord, but I don't notice any physical damage to any structures in the neighborhood.

Recent studies show a 70% probability that a quake as large or larger than the Loma Prieta quake will hit the Bay Area between now and 2030. Click here for more information.
